Director Crossing Borders

​

Garba was born in  Mauritania where he lived until the age of 19. Since then, he has lived and studied in the Middle East (Qatar) and Scandinavia (Norway and Denmark).
In Garba’s words, “Thanks to this lifelong learning at the many places I have been to and from the many people I have met and worked with, I have grown into a true citizen of the world with deep roots in Africa and branches spanning the global culture, both vertically and horizontally. 

Therefore, for me home is where I feel home, and I can feel home anywhere I can meet and do interesting things with interesting people, regardless of cultural, religious, gender, age or any other natural differences. 

In terms of family, I am married to Runa Midtvaage from Norway. We have a 19 year old daughter, Oda-Kange and 14 year old son, Dag-Yero. My extended family resides in West Africa and Norway. 

As for my professional life, I develop ideas, enable and facilitate educational activities and dialogue focusing on the key dimensions of globalization: global institutions, conflict management and transformation, media awareness and the climate challenges as a solution to the cross-cutting issues of our time. I enable and coordinate Crossing Borders Global Studies at Krogerup People’s College.  Along with this, I also work as the founding Director of Crossing Borders CB. My core regional focuses are Africa and the Middle East.

 

נולדתי במאוריטניה, שם גרתי עד גיל 19. מאז, התגוררתי במדינות רבות  ברחבי העולם. זכיתי להכיר אנשים נפלאים, המייצגים מגוון רחב של תרבויות, רקעים, מקצועות ודעות. 
בזכות מסלול חיי הייחודי, הפכתי "לאזרח העולם", ביתי הוא כל מקום בו אני חש בנוח, בכל מקום בו  אוכל לפגוש אנשים מעניינים או לעסוק בתחומים המעניינים ומספקים אותי.
במסגרת עיסוקיי המקצועיים אני מפתח רעיונות, מקדם ומאפשר  פעילויות חינוכיות ודיאלוג המתמקד בהיבטים קריטיים של הליכי גלובליזציה: מוסדות גלובליים, ניהול והתמרת  סכסוכים, מודעות תקשורתית ואתגרים סביבתיים, במטרה למצוא פתרון כולל לבעיות ואתגרים המאיימים כיום על כלל האנושות.  אני מאפשר ומתאם לימודי גלובליים חוצי גבולות במכללה העממית בקרוגרופ שבדנמרק. בנוסף, אני המנהל המייסד של עמותת  "Crossing Borders CB".  עיקר עבודתי מתמקדת  באפריקה ובמזרח התיכון
